The 30-year-old joined Amakhosi from Stellenbosch last season bit could not make a huge impact as expected of him.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Sibongiseni Mthethwa joined Kaizer Chiefs from Stellenbosch FC in September 2024 after the Soweto giants triggered his R10 million buyout clause.
The arrival of Njabulo Blom has sparked rumours suggesting that he could be offloaded and Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jnr has shed light on the player's future.
WHAT MOTAUNG SAID
“Ox is a big part of the plans. He’s had a good preseason…,” Motaung said as per FARPost.
“As time goes on, even next week, there could be some announcements.”
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Mthethwa faces competition in central midfield from the likes of Blom, Edson Castillo, Samkelo Zwane and Yusuf Maart who now has the Amakhosi armband.
He was not even on the bench when the Soweto giants beat Marumo Gallants 2-1 on Saturday as coach Nasreddine Nabi opted to start Zwane and Maart while Castillo came off the bench.
Chiefs' central midfield is one department Nabi is spoilt for choice as Blom can also play in that position.
WHAT NEXT FOR CHIEFS?
The PSL transfer window closes on Friday and Chiefs have a few days left to close their transfers.
After signing seven players including four defenders, Chiefs are still in the hunt for a striker amid transfer rumours around winger Oswin Appollis.
