West Indies fast bowler Alzarri Joseph has been suspended for two matches for leaving the field after an argument with captain Shai Hope during the third one-day international against England.

Joseph, 27, was unhappy with a field placement off his bowling, and did not celebrate dismissing Jordan Cox before walking off at the end of the fourth over.

West Indies started the next over with only 10 players on the field and Joseph walked off again later after two misfields off his bowling.

"My passion got the best of me," said Joseph in a public apology. "I understand that even a brief lapse in judgement can have a far-reaching impact, and I deeply regret any disappointment caused."

Joseph said he had apologised to Hope, his team-mates and management and also extends his "sincerest apologies" to West Indies fans.

The hosts thrashed England by eight wickets in Barbados to win the ODI series 2-1.

West Indies next face England in five T20s, with the first and second matches both taking place in Barbados on Saturday and Sunday.

Cricket West Indies director of cricket Miles Bascombe said Joseph's behaviour "did not align with the core values" of the team.

He added: "Such conduct cannot be overlooked, and we have taken decisive action to ensure the gravity of the situation is fully acknowledged."
