Jimmy Connors holds the Open Era record for the most matches won on indoor courts, while Roger Federer, John McEnroe and Boris Becker all feature in the top 10. 

Two players have won over 400 ATP matches indoors, while seven have surpassed the 300-mark.

Hard-court is the only surface currently used at indoor events on the ATP Tour as the use of carpet, which was a prominently used indoor surface in the past, ended in 2009. Tournaments have also been staged on indoor clay courts.

Here, we look at the 10 players who have won the most men’s singles matches on indoor courts in the Open Era.

10. Stefan Edberg – 257

Stefan Edberg won 257 indoor matches in his career, which makes up 32.1% of his 801 overall match victories. The Swede claimed 18 titles at indoor tournaments.

9. Boris Becker – 297

Boris Becker earned 297 wins on indoor courts, which accounts for 41.7% of the 713 matches he won in total in his career. The German secured 30 indoor titles.

Roger Federer amassed 298 victories in matches on indoor courts, which makes up 23.8% of his career match wins. The Swiss won 26 indoor tournaments.

7. Stan Smith – 303

Stan Smith won 303 matches on indoor courts in the Open Era, which accounts for 38.9% of his 779 Open Era match wins. The American collected 27 indoor titles.

6. Brian Gottfried – 307

Brian Gottfried earned 307 victories in indoor matches, which makes up 34% of the 702 matches he won in his career. The American claimed 14 indoor titles.

5. Ilie Nastase – 309

Ilie Nastase compiled 309 matches on indoor courts in his Open Era career, which accounts for 34% of his 908 Open Era match wins. The Romanian won 26 titles at indoor events.

4. Artur Ashe – 339

Arthur Ashe won 339 indoor matches in the Open Era, which makes up 43.5% of the 799 matches he won overall in the Open Era. The American secured 27 indoor titles.

3. Ivan Lendl – 341

Ivan Lendl amassed 341 victories in indoor matches, which makes up 31.9% of his 1,068 career match wins. The Czech-American won 42 indoor tournaments.

2. John McEnroe – 423

John McEnroe won 423 matches on indoor courts, which accounts for 47.9% of the 883 matches he won in his career. The American claimed 52 indoor titles.

1. Jimmy Connors – 487

Jimmy Connors compiled 487 match wins on indoor courts, which makes up 38.2% of his 1,274 total career match wins. The American won 53 titles at indoor events.
