Frank Lampard snubbed Paul Scholes and Steven Gerrard when naming five best teammates of his legendary career

Frank Lampard overlooked both Paul Scholes and Steven Gerrard when naming the best teammates he played with during his career.

Lampard will go down in history as one of the best midfielders of his generation, having enjoyed a stellar career in English football.

After playing for West Ham United during his youth career, Lampard made his Hammers first-team debut in 1995 before joining Chelsea in 2001.

During his time at Stamford Bridge, Lampard developed into a world-class player, scoring 211 goals in 648 matches and lifting multiple trophies including the Premier League and the Champions League.

The midfielder then joined Manchester City and New York City FC before calling him on his glittering career in 2016.

On the international stage, Lampard was capped 106 times by England, scoring 29 goals.

In his career, Lampard played with a host of world-class players including Scholes, Gerrard, Wayne Rooney, John Terry and Didier Drogba.

However, he snubbed midfield rivals Scholes and Gerrard when naming his five best teammates.

During an interview with Planet Football back in 2021, Lampard picked out Terry, Drogba, Eden Hazard, Gianfranco Zola and Sergio Aguero as his five best teammates.

Speaking about Terry and Drogba, Lampard said: "First and foremost they are great footballers, but they are also winners and that is what sets them apart from most players. In the big games, when it matters the most, these men, and that is what they are, stood up to be counted, and they are comfortably the top two I have played with for that reason."

The 46-year-old then switched his attention to Hazard, saying: "There is no limit to how far he can go. Hazard is the most naturally gifted player I played with and on his day he is unstoppable. He has said he wants to be up there with the best players in the world and he has the talent to do that. He just needs to add the consistency and the goals of a Messi or a Ronaldo to be considered in that class."

On Zola, Lampard said: "He means so much to Chelsea fans. Of all the foreign players who came to the club at the start of the new era if you like, Zola is the one the fans loved more than any other. He was fantastic on and off the field. A great fella and a fantastic footballer."

Lastly, Lampard touched on Aguero; the pair shared a dressing room during the Englishman's move to City in 2014.

He said of Aguero: "I was not at Man City for long, but straight away you could see that this guy was world-class. The goals he scored on the training pitch every day were frightening and he took that on to the field.

"You only need to look at his record since he came to City to appreciate what a class act he is and he was great to play with."
