Mykhaylo Mudryk risks falling further down the pecking order at Chelsea when Omari Hutchinson returns from his loan spell at Ipswich Town. The winger has been in sensational form for the Championship outfit and has guided them to within touching distance of the top flight.

Mudryk has endured another torrid season at Stamford Bridge, with Mauricio Pochettino struggling to get the very best out of the Ukraine international. The ex-Shakhtar Donetsk star has scored just six goals since joining Chelsea, and his overall play has left plenty to be desired.

The 23-year-old has shown glimpses of promise but largely failed to influence matches, with his decision-making in the final third and general level of finishing prompting serious questions to be raised about his £88.5million price tag.

The higher powers at Chelsea must decide whether they are willing to put their trust in Mudryk again next season or whether to try and cut their losses on the forward – especially as Hutchinson is waiting in the wings to prove his worth.

The 20-year-old joined the Blues from Arsenal in 2022 but was sent out on loan last summer to gain some much-needed experience, and the loan move has been a roaring success. The Jamaican international has been a constant threat for Ipswich Town down the right this season, and his brace on Saturday highlighted what he has to offer.

Hutchinson scored two sensational goals in his side’s 3-3 draw with Hull City to put Kieran McKenna’s side level on points with second-placed Leeds United. The winger bagged his first on the cusp of half-time when whipping a curling effort into the top corner from the edge of the penalty area.

Hull did not learn their lesson and afforded Hutchinson more space out wide in the 67th minute, and he made them pay when cutting the ball onto his left foot and fizzing his strike into the bottom corner.

The ex-Gunners star will be keen to help The Tractor Boys back to the Premier League before assessing his options, but his performances during some of his side’s most important matches would certainly indicate that he is ready to be tried at the very highest level. Hutchinson will also fancy his chances of breaking into the first team given that his versatility means he can be deployed on either flank and thus displace Mudryk or Noni Madueke.
