Egyptian Salah opened the scoring for Liverpool in the 13th minute, outpacing the defenders to latch onto Harvey Elliott's defence-splitting pass. Carvalho doubled their lead in the 34th minute, with Elliott again the provider.
The 21-year-old Portuguese winger ran onto a perfectly lofted Elliott pass into the box and fired home a crisp right-foot volley through Hein's legs. A goalless second period secured the triumph for Liverpool's new Dutch manager Arne Slot.
"I just remember getting into the box. Playing through the thirds is what he wants us to do and getting a lot of players in the box. Obviously a great pass by Harvey, that’s what he does best," Carvalho told his current club's press when asked about his feelings on scoring against the Gunners.
"Obviously I’ve known Harvey a long time so we already have that connection and I know if I make a run into the box, he’s going to find me. As long as you get contact and get it on target. Not just the gaffer but the coaching staff have been on to me about running in behind, not just getting it into feet. That’s something I’ve been working on," he added.
