Ruben Amorim singles out two Man Utd stars who have been playing at highest ‘intensity,’ his philosophy fully works

Ruben Amorim has insisted that two of his Manchester United players have proven that the Red Devils can adapt to his playing style this season.

The 39-year-old Manchester United manager has had a positive start to his reign at Old Trafford after his arrival from Sporting CP in the November international break.

Ruben Amorim took charge of the Red Devils for the first time against Ipswich Town and walked away with a point from their 1-1 draw at Portman Road last week.

The former Sporting CP boss had his first match in charge of United at Old Trafford on Thursday evening in the Europa League against Bodo/Glimt.

Amorim, who signed a contract with United until June 2027, oversaw a 3-2 win over the Norwegian outfit after mounting a successful comeback against Bodo/Glimt.

United agreed to bring the Portuguese manager to Old Trafford earlier this month after triggering the £9.25m release clause in his Sporting CP contract.

Amorim succeeded Erik ten Hag in the Old Trafford dugout after the former United manager was sacked by the Premier League club in late October.

Amorim singles out two Man Utd stars

Manchester United’s victory over Bodo/Glimt was only the second European win for the Red Devils in the 2024-25 Europa League campaign.

Speaking ahead of the Everton match this weekend, Ruben Amorim singled out Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund as players who are becoming better athletes.

Mason Mount made his first start under Amorim and was deployed as one of the two No 10s in the United manager’s 3-4-2-1 formation against Bodo/Glimt.

The 25-year-old former Chelsea ace impressed United fans with his performance and picked up an assist after setting up Denmark striker Rasmus Hojlund.

Mount was withdrawn in the second half and replaced by Marcus Rashford, while Hojlund saw out the full 90 minutes while bagging himself a brace.

Amorim suggested that Mount played at a “high intensity” during his time on the pitch and Hojlund was “dead [at] the end” of the match.

“Without training, you have to use the games,” he said at his press conference, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“I felt and I don’t know because I have to see the game, I felt we pressed a little bit higher.

“In Mason Mount, he did 60 minutes with high intensity. Rasmus [Hojlund] was dead in the end.

“The guys that are playing have to push more. Push the guys to the limit and the other guys have to train tomorrow.

“Luke Shaw did some minutes and then he is going to train now because we are three days away from some things we cannot do.

“We manage with all the staff on how we try to figure it out. [We have] some ideas on how to cope with that.”

Amorim looks ahead to Everton

United will welcome Everton to Old Trafford on Sunday and Amorim is keen to secure his first three Premier League points for the Red Devils from the match.

“Win. I am hoping to win,” Amorim said.

“It is going to be a different match. [There will be] a lot of fighting, long balls, second balls. A quality coach that understands the league and understands the quality of the opponent.

“We need to have the ball because we have a short time to recover with the team. So, I hope for a win and I hope to see different things from my team, like we did from Ipswich to now.

“With Everton, [we will be] without training and I expect to see different things and better things.”
