Sunderland welcome Coventry City on Saturday afternoon, and the Sky Blues fans plan to be very noisy in the away end.
Ahead of their trip to Sunderland on Saturday, Coventry City have sacked Mark Robins after seven years in charge.
It’s a decision that’s shocked the Championship and has left Sky Blues fans feeling very upset.
Robins had taken Coventry City from League Two in 2017, all the way to the Championship play-off final in 2023, missing out on promotion to the Premier League on penalties.
Robins’ unexpected sacking has sparked huge uproar among Coventry City fans on social media; the vast majority of whom completely disagree with the decision.
And during the game at the Stadium of Light this weekend, Sky Blues fans plan to let their feelings towards owner Doug King be known.
One fan posted: “Looking forward to chanting his name this Saturday in Sunderland,” and another added: “Only one Mark Robins to be chanted the full 90 at Sunderland away this weekend.”
And it seems like this plan is gaining traction with others commenting: “Everyone going to Sunderland on Saturday should be singing ‘There’s only one Mark Robins’ from the first until the last minute.”
Another fan said on X: “I genuinely think the fans (including myself) going to Sunderland have a responsibility on Saturday. There’s only one Mark Robins chants all game no matter the result.”
Whilst another supporter wrote: “All of us going to Sunderland on Saturday need to ensure we let Mark Robins know what we think of him.”
Mismanagement in the dugout, and poor timing of sackings is certainly something that Sunderland fans can relate to.
Just last season the club appointed a hugely unpopular manager in Michael Beale. But now things are much brighter for the Black Cats.
One Sunderland fan posted on X: “I have no love for Coventry City, but this decision is a disgrace.
“Mark Robins is an excellent manager. His teams have style and have caused Sunderland huge problems in recent years. A shame.”
As Coventry manager, Robins had an unbeaten record against Sunderland (eight games and four wins), with the Black Cats having not beaten Coventry City since 2007.
