Jobe Bellingham was on the scoresheet for Sunderland in their Championship clash vs Derby County on Tuesday night.
Sunderland returned to the Stadium of Light on Tuesday night where they welcomed Derby County for their eighth Championship game of the season.
The Black Cats went into these midweek fixtures in 2nd place of the Championship table following a 2-1 defeat vs Watford last time out.
And going into the game there was a lot of talking points for Regis Le Bris’ side, with Dan Neil perhaps being the main one.
Sunderland fan were critical of Neil following the Watford defeat, in which Neil gave away a penalty which led to the winning goal.
Elsewhere, fans were wondering whether or not the Stadium of Light will become a fortress this season, with away form looking like it could be a potential weakness for the Black Cats.
But soon into the game vs Derby, there was only one talking point; Jobe Bellingham.
Bellingham struggled vs Watford, and hadn’t scored in the Championship this season before the game vs Derby County. But he opened his account in some style.
Midway through the first half, the 19-year-old got the ball around 25 yards from goal and picked out the top left corner, leaving Derby County goalkeeper Jacob Widell Zetterstrom helpless.
Bellingham eventually scored seven goals for Sunderland in 45 Championship outings last time round.
He’s expected to push on this season, and whilst he’s been putting in some very good performances in the no.10 role, he’s not finding the back of he net as often as he might have hoped.
Reacting to the goal, Jobe’s older brother – Real Madrid and England star Jude Bellingham – posted on X:

In a 4-2-3-1 formation, the no.10 position is so crucial; arguably the most crucial with it often being the final link between midfield and attack.
Bellingham plays that role well; although he’s not been banging in goals or creating too many this season, he’s a grafter, and his physical impact is as important as his technical game.
And he reminded everyone with his strike vs Derby that he is a player with an eye for goal, and now he’s got to make sure he finds that scoring touch on a more regular basis.
Sunderland return to action vs Leeds United on Friday night.
