West Ham United play host to Manchester United in a few week’s time, and Bruno Fernandes will now be available to play.
Surprisingly though, that’s great news for the Hammers.
Bruno Fernandes was sent off for Manchester United during their 3-0 defeat to Tottenham on Sunday – a red card that originally meant he would miss three Premier League games, including the clash with West Ham.
However, the Portugal international has now had that red card overturned (BBC), meaning that he’s eligible to play against the Hammers.
The 30-year-old is the Man United club captain, and he’s obviously a very important player for them.
Fernandes has bagged a mightily impressive 79 goals and 70 assists in 242 games for the Red Devils in all competitions.
He’s one of the most dangerous attacking play-makers in the Premier League, so it’s easy to see why some West Ham fans will be disappointed that he’s now available to face us.
However, here’s why it’s actually great news for us.
Man United travel to the London Stadium to take on West Ham on October 27th.
That game comes three days after their Europa League clash away in Turkey at Fenerbahce.
Firstly, that’s a 4 hour 30 minute flight for the Manchester United players, but secondly, Bruno Fernandes may well be incredibly tired when he lines up to face the Hammers.
Erik ten Hag never rotates the former Sporting CP star out of the side, and he definitely won’t give his captain a rest for a game with the magnitude of Fenerbahce away from home.
That means that when he returns to England to take on West Ham, he’ll be lethargic to say the least.
Had Bruno Fernandes been suspended for the Premier League clash with West Ham, Manchester United boss Ten Hag would have been forced to bring a fresh player into his lineup in place of the skipper.
West Ham will have a full week to prepare for the Man United game, and our players should have much more energy and vigour about them than the visitors.
Fernandes getting his red card overturned could end up being a huge blessing in disguise for the Hammers.
