Six days after the Premier League transfer window closed, Tottenham have completed another deal. Spurs have confirmed that wonderkid Alfie Devine has made the move to Westerlo on a season-long loan deal.

Devine made club history in 2021, becoming the youngest player to make an appearance for the Spurs senior team. Aged 16 years and 163 days, Devine capped off his appearance in the FA Cup against non-league side Marine with a goal, becoming the youngest scorer in Tottenham history too.

The 20-year-old has been on loan at Port Vale and Plymouth Argyle already during his Tottenham career and now makes the move to the Belgian league, where he will link up with future Tottenham player Luka Vuskovic, who has signed for the club but will not arrive until 2025.

Speaking about Devine earlier in the summer, head coach Ange Postecoglou said: "We'll have a look at it really closely. Alfie has had a really good pre-season and again compare it to last year and he's definitely developed. Part of that is probably because he's played senior football last year on loan.

"I wouldn't want to keep him with us unless I really felt he can get some significant game time because I don't want to startle his development because he is a player that can make an impact here at Spurs. Fair to say him and the other younger guys, Jamie Donley, Will Lankshear have made an impression both in the way they have trained and the way they have played games. We'll have a close look at what the next steps are."

But how have Spurs managed to tie up a loan deal outside of the transfer window? The simple fact of the matter is that while the Premier League transfer window has closed, that is not necessarily the case elsewhere.

So while Tottenham cannot buy anyone now, they can still let players go to countries where the transfer window remains open. The Belgian transfer window is open until Friday, September 6.

That means the likes of Sergio Reguilon could still move on too, should an acceptable offer come in.
