Phil Hay has reported what The 49ers currently feel about Leeds United manager Daniel Farke and the relationship the German boss has with chairman Paraag Marathe.

Farke was unable to steer Leeds into the top two places in the final few games as Kieran McKenna’s side threw themselves into the Premier League, as the Whites lost four of their last six Championship games.

But it still remains an incredibly successful season given the mess that Farke inherited at the start of the season. Players wanting to leave and others able to go on loan without the club able to prevent them.

A clause inserted into some contracts by Victor Orta allowed players to leave on loan in the event of relegation. It saw Brenden Aaronson, Max Wober, Marc Roca and more jump ship at Elland Road on loan.

Farke has created an identity and moulded a squad that despite it’s young average age, has managed to finish within a whisker of automatic promotion and now boast a chance of going up via the play-offs.

Farke has been given power in terms of making transfers and being a manager at Elland Road, rather than a head coach and Hay has now reported what The 49ers thinks of him, and his relationship with Marathe.

Here is what Hay reported on Thursday morning:

Hay says what The 49ers and Marathe actually think about Farke

There might have been a few incidents during the season in which Farke may have made the wrong move, the wrong substitution or got his tactics wrong but that hasn’t affected his relationship with the hierarchy.

MORE LEEDS UNITED STORIES

Indeed, Hay says on The Athletic that Marathe and Farke have a good working relationship and actually, The 49ers are impressed with how Farke conducts himself in the media and avoiding messy headlines.

“All players brought into Elland Road since Farke’s appointment in July were on his say-so, or with his direct approval. He is said to have a firm relationship with Leeds’ board and chairman, Paraag Marathe.

“The 49ers have warmed not only to results under him, in the main at least, but also his public persona and knack of speaking in a way which avoids messy headlines,” Hay writes in his latest Athletic piece.

Leeds go into the play-offs in dismal form but go up against Farke’s old side in Norwich, who Leeds have beaten both home and away this season with a 3-2 away win and then 1-0 at Elland Road this season.

The chances are that Leeds surpass Norwich but then come up against a Southampton side that have themselves done the double over Leeds in 2023-24, and Jesse Marsch has commented on the play-offs.

“Look at the play-offs in the Championship, oh my goodness. There are some good clubs there. That is going to be tight. Whoever emerges will have earned it, no question,” Marsch told CBS Sports Golazo.
