Leeds United and Sheffield United are slowly pulling away at the top of the Championship table. But Daniel Farke will know better than anyone that it can all change, and very quickly too.
Daniel Farke is a Championship promotion expert, winning the second tier title on two occasions with former club Norwich City.
Now, he’s looking to do the same with Leeds United. His side came close last season, reaching the play-off final but losing to Southampton, but this time round the Whites look slightly more formidable.
After a 3-1 win over Middlesbrough in midweek, former player Michael Bridges has backed Leeds United in the promotion race. And it’s looking good right now with Sheffield United only a point ahead of Leeds in 2nd place of the Championship table, whilst Burnley in 3rd trail by three points.
Meanwhile, in what feels like an attempt at mind games, Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder says Leeds are ‘miles ahead’ of Sheffield United right now. Farke though isn’t ready to be drawn into making predictions about the season ahead.
Speaking to the press on Friday afternoon, Farke was asked what he thinks of Sheffield United, who won 1-0 at Millwall in midweek, and what he makes of the promotion picture in the Championship.
Farke highlighted the fact that there’s still several teams in the running, namedropping the likes of Scott Parker’s Burnley and more.
The Leeds boss said: “Not just Sheffield United. They are impressive so far but also the other likes, like Burnley, like Sunderland, like Middlesbrough, like Blackburn who is on a really good run, West Brom.

“So there are so many good sides and also some teams are still lurking, so it’s a competitive league.”
Interestingly, Farke also discussed what he says was ‘speculation’ before the season that Leeds were in store for an easy campaign in the Championship.
He said: “I never agreed that, before this season there was some speculation that perhaps this could be an easier season, not at all.”
Speaking recently, Leeds hero Wilfried Gnonto shared how the Leeds players feel about promotion this season.
He highlighted the pain of losing the play-off final last season and insisted he and his teammates are hoping for a different outcome this season.
Gnonto said: “It’s [promotion] the goal, of course. But we still have a long way to go and we’re not really thinking about it now. We were so close last year.
“But we are hoping for a different ending this season. I feel we’ve learned our lessons from how it ended last season. I just want to be at my best, stay as fit as I can, and score and assist as many goals as I can.”
