Celtic’s lack of transfer activity has caught the attention of pundit and journalist, Hugh Keevins this week.

With just two players added to the books in Viljami Sinisalo and Kasper Schmeichel, Keevins was levying criticism at Celtic for dragging their heels with new transfer additions this summer.

The veteran pundit was bemoaning the fact that it’s been ten weeks since Paulo Bernardo assisted the winning Scottish Cup goal at Hampden and he’s still not back at Celtic permanently when Jim Duffy interjected with his reasons on why it’s taking so long for Brendan Rodgers to add to his squad.

Celtic targeting ‘higher level’ of player than Rangers

Keevins was also bigging up Rangers’ ability to go out and sing players that they need this summer when Duffy put him straight with a bit of reality on the levels both clubs are working at.

“So maybe they’re looking at players at a different level. Obviously, financially as well, maybe the pool of players that they are looking at is in a smaller range.

“Rangers have been looking at project players, there have been players with potential. I think Celtic, as we know, have signed plenty of players with potential.

“They need a higher level of player to go and compete with Callum McGregor, to go and compete with Carter Vickers, the guys who are nailed on.

“It’s when these guys were missing last year when Carter Vickers and Callum McGregor were missing, Celtic’s form took a significant dip. So they need a higher level of player.

“So that’s the reason why I think Celtic need to be cut a little bit of slack because I think that the pool of players that they’re looking for is much, much smaller.”

Not for the first time has Keevins been made to look silly with his criticism of Celtic as Brendan Rodgers believes the Portuguese midfielder is about to sign for the club real soon.

And whilst Celtic’s lack of movement is frustrating, Duffy’s comments only lean into what Rodgers has been saying all along.

He wants quality over quantity and to get those types of players in takes time. Patience is required by the fans and, by and large, the supporters have been.

It’s just a pity that Keevins couldn’t be patient for just one more day or so to wait for Bernardo to be announced as a permanent Celt.
