One Arsenal target has suggested he could leave his club in the summer transfer window.

The Gunners are still challenging Manchester City for the Premier League crown. It looks like the title race will go down to the last day of the season.

That is going to be a fascinating watch, but irrespective of where they end up, Arsenal are expected to make some big moves in the summer.

Viktor Gyokeres has been one of the best strikers in Europe this season.

The Sweden international, who joined Sporting Lisbon from Coventry City in 2023, became a superstar there and has just helped them win the Portuguese league title.

Gyokeres has scored 41 goals and provided 15 assists in all competitions this season. That’s 56 direct goal contributions in just 43 games, which is a terrific return.

The 25-year-old has been heavily linked with a return to England this summer, and Arsenal are said to be interested in signing him. It has been claimed that the player wants to join the Gunners too.

Now, in what could be good news for Mikel Arteta‘s side, Gyokeres himself has cast a shadow on his future at Sporting Lisbon.

The Swede has claimed that he cannot promise that he will be at the club beyond the end of this season.

He told Record, as translated by SportWitness: “Thank you very much, Sporting fans. See you soon!

“I can’t promise that I’ll still be here. I love it here and I wouldn’t mind. But things happen quickly in football and we have to adapt to that.

“We’ll see what happens. It’s hard to predict what will happen in the future.”

Arsenal should be wary of mistakes Chelsea and Liverpool have made

The Portuguese top-flight is nowhere near as difficult as the English Premier League.

Players who are absolute world-beaters there can struggle once they leave Portugal and move to England. We’ve seen that on plenty of occasions.

Liverpool and Chelsea signed Darwin Nunez and Enzo Fernandes for huge money, and an argument can be made that both players have not done enough to justify their crazy price tags.

This is not to say that Gyokeres, who has a €100 million release clause [£85m] in his contract (Goal), will flop if he joins Arsenal, but it’s extremely unlikely that he will get anywhere close to 56 direct goal contributions in a single season in England.

The Gunners should be wary of that after seeing how Fernandez and Nunez have fared following their big-money moves.
