Newcastle United must stump up £60million if they want to sign Michael Olise from Crystal Palace this summer
Newcastle United are weighing up a move for Crystal Palace talisman Michael Olise, according to reports.
The winger was in sensational form last night as he brutally put Manchester United to the sword. His two strikes from distance helped the Eagles on their way to an emphatic 4-0 victory.
Newcastle supporters cheered those goals on as Palace’s win allowed them to take control in the Europa League race. The Daily Mail claim Toon fans rooting for Olise could become a regular occurrence from this summer onwards.
A fresh report suggests the Magpies are keeping tabs on the 22-year-old ahead of their expected summer rebuild. Olise - who snubbed a move to Chelsea last year - has a £60million release clause in his Palace contract.
That figure was just £35million a year ago but Olise penned a new deal - committing to another year at Selhurst Park with a higher transfer fee. The expectation is he will be allowed to leave should a club trigger his enhanced release clause.
Newcastle are targeting a right-sided attacker, with Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy their current options. Neither are viewed as players who can take the Magpies to where they want to be long-term.
Social media was rife with support for Olise’s potential arrival after his stunning brace against Man United. One fan posted: “Michael Olise playing like a man who just heard NUFC want to sign him.”
Another joked: “Hoping these Olise to Newcastle rumours have some foundation. He’d make a superb backup for Murphy!”
