Mbappé: Real Madrid move remains a taboo, but tension rises

Mbappé and Real Madrid maintain a tense calm regarding the latest major market operation that could definitively change the balance of power in football… in favor of the Whites. Both sides repeatedly avoid talking about when the signing will finally materialize, a topic that has become taboo just now, in addition to the possibility of a Champions League final between Real Madrid and PSG being so close. The tension in which Mbappé swims in PSG is evident, with Luis Enrique squeezing him in the league whenever he can. “Kylian will play as the sun warms,” the Asturian once said defiantly. In the Champions League, however, they need each other. Madrid, for its part, is finalizing the strategy on when it will be best to announce it and what the optimal date will be for its presentation.

“No, no, no… there is no possibility that I will rethink my future,” Mbappé rushed to say when the quarterfinal tie against Barcelona, in which he scored two goals, ended, when asked by journalists. Two reasons for joy for the Madrid fans, who see the signing in their hands and saw, then, how the star was decisive in kicking their eternal rival out of the Champions League.

Regarding the timing of the operation, Madrid is still finalizing the strategy. There are three possibilities: that the announcement and presentation be made after the Champions League final (June 1) and before the start of the European Championship (June 14), that the announcement be made first and the presentation be left for after the European Championship (which ends on July 14), or that the announcement and presentation be postponed until after the Nations tournament. PSG has a lot to say about this. Not in vain, Mbappé has a contract until June 30.

All parties already assume that the tension will increase if Real Madrid and PSG reach the Champions League final. A similar situation already occurred when both clubs met in the round of 16 in 2022. Mbappé’s arrival at the White House was an open secret. Everything seemed to be closed until Mbappé surprised the world by announcing his renewal. On this occasion, the Frenchman has the opportunity to say goodbye to Paris in style. But that would be a big disappointment for the White fans. A trap, without a doubt, for the player.

Contractual aspects…

Real Madrid and Mbappé have already resolved the loose ends that remained to finalize the contract that he is to sign in the summer and that will link him to Madrid for five seasons. Although the signing bonus that the player’s family will receive has not been disclosed, it has been leaked that the Whites will not break the salary scale with him. He will receive 15 million euros net, a third of what he was earning at PSG and, yes, he will have around 80% of his image rights, a good part of the pie that could amount to an annual figure similar to his own salary.

Real Madrid, after discussing it with Mbappé himself, has already informed the French federation that neither the star nor any of its players will play the European Championship and the Games in the same summer. Now it only remains to be seen how far France will go in the Euro. If it is to the final, it will be difficult to see Mbappé on the US tour. The Whites play their matches there on July 31, August 3 and 6 against Milan, Barcelona and Chelsea respectively. The idea of the coaching staff is that, after a season, this one, in which almost 60 games will be played (also for Mbappé, who has already played 43, and 43 goals) the players will have at least 21 days of vacation… LaLiga starts on the weekend of August 16 and 17.
