Manchester City face Premier League title race blow that could hand upper hand to Arsenal

The Gunners are hoping for a miracle in the final few weeks of the Premier League season as they seek to topple Manchester City

If this article was a list of the big six teams that have beaten Arsenal this season, it would be a very short one. Why? Because that list doesn't exist.

None of the traditional six biggest teams in English football have been able to beat Mikel Arteta's side so far. Admittedly they still have to travel to Manchester United, but a record of 19 points from a possible 27 so far in these heavyweight clashes is phenomenal.

"I don't know whether it is psychology, whether it is performance or getting better as a team," Arteta said when asked to explain the superb record. "The more you win against big teams the more belief you have that you can do it consistently. We prepare every game to beat them and tomorrow the feeling will be the same. We have to prove on the pitch that we are capable or not."

Still though, it may not be enough to catch Manchester City. Despite a dramatic 3-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, Arsenal are still far from favourites to win the Premier League title.

City sit one point behind them, but have a game in hand against Spurs that still puts them in the driving seat. As well as that though, Pep Guardiola's side face three more matches - a visit to Fulham and two home games against West Ham and Wolves.

On paper those don't look like particularly menacing fixtures. Arsenal may have only managed to get one point off Fulham this season, but the Cottagers have already secured Premier League survival and are unlikely to put up too much of a fight.

It is the other two though, where Arsenal may hold out hope. This is specifically because of Wolves and West Ham's records against the big six this campaign.

Wolves have wracked up an impressive 15 points in fixtures against Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City and Tottenham this season. That gives them the second best record in the Premier League.

Third place are West Ham who have 14 points in these fixtures. The Hammers are still in the hunt for a Europa League place and so will have plenty to play for when the two face off at the Etihad on the final day of the season.

It may feel like clutching at straws but as Arsenal hope for a miracle, this will be great news for Arteta's men. The Premier League has thrown up huge surprises before and the Gunners will be hoping another one is not too far around the corner.
