Ntobatsi Masegela responds to transfer rumours linking Babina Noko star with the Soweto giants.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Sekhukhune United midfielder Siphesihle Mkhize is rumoured to be a Kaizer Chiefs transfer target.
The former South Africa youth international has turned himself into a key Sekhukhune United player with 19 Premier Soccer League starts this season after joining Babina Noko from Mamelodi Sundowns before the start of the current campaign.
After loan spells at Cape Town Spurs and Chippa United, Mkhize has established himself as a top performer at Sekhukhune and his agent Ntobatsi Masegela has reacted to reports linking the player with a move to Kaizer Chiefs.
WHAT MASEGELA SAID
“Siphesihle Mkhize is contracted to Sekhukhune United and we thank the club for believing in him,” Masegela told FARPost.
“The fact that they bought him out of Sundowns meant a lot about how they rate him.
“And you know when a player is doing well, the so-called big teams are going to sniff around. But I can tell you now we haven’t engaged Chiefs over the transfer of Mkhize.
“However, I always say with all my players, they are ambitious players who are looking to improve their game," the agent continued.
"So, all the interest in Mkhize has to be directed to Sekhukhune. I’m sure with the right offer, the club give him their blessings.”
THE BIGGER PICTURE
There is scrutiny to see if Chiefs will go for high-quality players next season after enduring seasons of having the depth of their squad being criticised.
With Mkhize being a Sundowns reject, it might not please Amakhosi fans that their club is taking the right direction by chasing such a player.
Also, Chiefs currently do not have a substantive coach and signing players right now could be a mistake as the new recruits might not fall into the plans of the trainer who will be appointed.
WHAT NEXT FOR CHIEFS?
Chiefs are left with five games before the season ends and it is to be seen if they will announce the new coach to lead them next term before the current campaign ends.
The Soweto giants are now readying themselves to take on Mamelodi Sundowns in Thursday's Premier Soccer League match at FNB Stadium.
