Man Utd flop Alexis Sanchez lined up for emotional return to former club as Inter Milan release decided

Many players have tried and failed at Manchester United during the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.

But few have failed quite as spectacularly as Alexis Sanchez, signed in early 2018 and unveiled to a video playing a piano at Old Trafford.

Sanchez signed for Manchester United from Arsenal in a swap deal with Henrikh Mkhitaryan which benefitted neither player, nor club.

This past year the pair have been teaming up at Inter Milan, winning the Serie A title and turning back the clock.

Sanchez, 35, has not quite matched his heroics at Marseille last season where he scored 16 goals. He has contributed four goals for Inter this year, plus four assists.

Alexis Sanchez only signed on a one year deal with Inter last summer and he is set to become a free agent at the end of the current season, Fabrizio Romano reports.

Now, he is being lined up for a potential return to South America, and one of his former clubs.

Bola VIP report River Plate have made contact with Sanchez’s representatives, and made clear they are ready to make an offer to the Chile international legend.

Sanchez spent a season on loan at River Plate in 2007/08, during his early years at Udinese before really motoring on with his career in Europe and making a name for himself.

Alexis Sanchez blew it at Manchester United

Alexis Sanchez proved to be a poor fit for Manchester United from the moment he signed, struggling for form and to find a best position in the side.

Manager Jose Mourinho was fired within a year, and Sanchez fared little better under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

He scored only six times in his spell at United, and was loaned to Inter Milan before being released from his very expensive contract.

Sanchez later admitted he knew it had all gone wrong from the very start, quoted by The Mail in 2020: “I got the opportunity to go to United and it seemed tempting to me. It was something nice for me, because when I was a kid I liked that club a lot.

‘I ended up signing without much information about what was happening in the move. The first days that I was with my colleagues, sometimes there are things that you do not realise until you arrive.

‘The first training I had I realised many things. I came home and I told my representative: “Can’t the contract be terminated to return to Arsenal?

“They start laughing and I told them that something did not sit right with me. It had already been signed.”
