Jack Kingdon

Manchester United u21s earned three points over West Ham United u21s with a last minute winner on Friday night.

Here are our player ratings for the match. Read the detailed match report of all the action here.

(A score of 6 is around average)

Dermot Mee – 7 – Good match for the keeper, making four saves and commanding his area well. Also looked more comfortable on the ball compared to some recent matches.

Jayden Kamason – 7 – Took to the right wingback role very well, pushing high up the wing and providing a threat with his crosses.

Jack Kingdon – 8 – Monstrous performance at the back earns him our man of the match. Took up the right centre back role in the first half where he looked comfortable, moving wide to defend the wing and pushing up with possession. Played a very nice pass to put Sharpe through on goal. In the second half he slotted back into a more traditional centre back role where West Ham simply couldn’t get past him, providing another highlight reel moment when he made two blocks in quick succession inside the box.

Louis Jackson – 7 – A solid night as well from Jackson, who defended the box well and was comfortable in possession.

Sam Murray – 6.5 – A decent return from injury for Murray who got 45 minutes under the belt. He was in a more unusual left centre back role compared to his usual left back spot but was very comfortable in possession. Was caught out once with a run in behind which is to be expected in a new formation and just returning from a lengthy time out.

Harry Amass – 6.5 – A composed performance, moving the ball well to maintain possession without causing too much danger. Was tasked with a demanding role where he came inside into midfield at times but also stayed wide at other times, a new role he will need to get used to.

Tommy Rowe – 5.5 – Had a few shaky moments where he played blind passes straight to West Ham which resulted in counter attacks. He then settled down and offered a coach’s voice on the field in some pressured moments.

Dan Gore – 6.5 – Another injury returnee, Gore was at the heart of United controlling the possession in the first half but couldn’t force the openings through the middle of the park before going off at the break.

Malachi Sharpe – 6.5 – A lively performance, he pushed in centrally from the right wing at times to form a front two with Wheatley. He was probably United’s most involved with his ability to break into space behind the West Ham back line but was just missing the finishing product to take advantage of it.

Ethan Wheatley – 6 – A bit of a frustrating night for the striker with not a great deal of service. He had a couple of half chances but couldn’t provide a lethal finish.

Ethan Ennis – 7.5 – Often stayed wide in the first half where he saw lots of possession but mainly kept it safe and simple with short passes. Came alive a bit more in the second half with some more direct running, coming close on one occasion before providing the match winner with a sensational free kick goal.

Substitutes

Jacob Devaney – 6 – Hardworking display in midfield to help shield the back line.

Jack Moorhouse – 6.5 – Threatened at times with his running through the midfield.

Ashton Missin – 6.5 – Came on for an injury to Amass which left him shoved into a central 10 role. He looked a little lost as to where to find space, naturally drifting wide into the same spaces as Ennis and Sharpe. But when he moved wide he looked dangerous on the ball with an electric change of pace that could only be stopped by fouling.

Gabriele Biancheri – N/A – Not involved enough in the final stages to make an impact.
