Man City dealt Erling Haaland injury blow after Arsenal ramp up title race pressure

Pep Guardiola confirmed some bad news for Manchester City as they look to close the gap to Arsenal at the top of the Premier League

Pep Guardiola has confirmed that star striker Erling Haaland will be absent for Manchester City's upcoming fixture against Brighton. The title contenders will have to make do without their top scorer when they face the Seagulls in the Premier League on Thursday.

Haaland was sidelined for the FA Cup semi-final victory over Chelsea last Saturday due to a muscle problem, and Guardiola has now announced he won't feature at the Amex Stadium.

Despite the setback for the Norwegian forward, who has netted 20 times this season, Guardiola remains optimistic, suggesting Haaland might return for Sunday's game against Nottingham Forest.

Meanwhile, City received positive news regarding Phil Foden and John Stones, as both are cleared to play after overcoming their fitness issues.

Guardiola provided an update, saying, "Erling is not ready for tomorrow, the other two they are ready. I know it is not a big issue, but he is not allowed for this game."

City, currently trailing Arsenal by four points but with two games in hand, will be keen to close the gap while also keeping an eye on Liverpool, who are set to engage in the Merseyside derby on Wednesday night.

And the pressure is back on the champions, with Arsenal's stunning victory over Chelsea on Tuesday night proving the title chase is far from over.
