Victor Osimhen of Napoli has conceded he has a transfer 'plan' in place, amid links to Liverpool and other clubs.

Liverpool could be in the market for a new forward this summer. Arne Slot will be inheriting a talented roster already, but one that comes with more than a couple of question marks attached.

Through the middle, there's a line of thinking that buying someone like Victor Osimhen is the only way out of the perennial Darwin Núñez finishing dilemma. Liverpool has not generally struggled for chance creation this season, but an inability to put them away has ultimately cost Jürgen Klopp a great chance of the Premier League title.

Meanwhile, Luis Díaz is being linked with a big-money transfer away from the club. And while Mohamed Salah is currently expected to stay put for at least another season, a big bid from Saudi Arabia could yet give Liverpool something to think about.

Should either of them move on, it's fair to assume that a marquee addition like Osimhen becomes a little more plausible. Corriere dello Sport claims that Liverpool holds an interest in the Napoli forward, along with PSG, Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal.

Another Italian outlet, Gazzetta dello Sport, previously claimed that Osimhen possesses a preference for playing in the Premier League. He's also concerned with his own personal advancement, and wants to feature in Europe's top competitions. Applying those criteria, it's only really Arsenal who could compete with potential transfer interest from Anfield.

But what does the man himself have to say on his summer transfer plans? He has spoken to CBS Sports about that topic: "I already made up my mind," claimed Osimhen. "I already have my plan, I know what I want to do, the next step I want to take.

"I think 60 per cent of the people mention the rumors about me linked with the Premier League. The Premier League is one of the biggest leagues in the world. I want to finish the season with Napoli strong then come up with the decision I've already made."

The decision over whether or not to pursue Osimhen will ultimately lie in the hands of Michael Edwards and new sporting director Richard Hughes. When Slot arrives, he is expected to be named as 'head coach', with a shift in recruitment culture coinciding with Klopp's exit.

Liverpool.com says: Whether Osimhen means he's already picked an exact club is unclear. He could just mean that he knows he wants to leave Napoli, most likely for the Premier League, and that he will make a final decision in due course.

In that scenario, Liverpool could consider itself a credible suitor. If there's already some kind of agreement in place with another club, however, it will be a losing battle.

While there's no doubt Osimhen would be an exciting addition, it's not entirely clear that it would be the wisest use of Liverpool's money. Slot is known to like wingers, and if Díaz or Salah were to go, he'd presumably prefer a more direct replacement. A transfer would effectively signal giving up on Núñez, and on the whole that would still be premature.
