It’s been a tough ride for Chelsea supporters in the last couple of years watching a club in transition, but it now feels like things are settling down and there’s plenty of reasons to be positive.
Enzo Maresca arrived in the summer as the Chelsea manager and has started superbly well.
Yes, Maresca has inherited a very talented and young Blues squad with potential. But it’s been impressive to quickly see a style of play and positive set of results, winning 10 of their opening 17 games across all competitions.
There’s a lot of talented individuals in the group, especially in the forward positions. It’s why they’ve scored 44 goals in their 17 matches this season.
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has noticed a Chelsea pattern under Maresca where they’re focusing on exploiting space in behind opponents, which is helping them to become a free-scoring side.
Premier League legend Alan Shearer has just delivered a glowing verdict when discussing Chelsea’s Cole Palmer.
He’s claimed that the 22-year-old Blues attacker, who’s thriving in the No.10 position right now, is so good at everything he does on the football pitch. In fact, he thinks he elevates his side to new heights when he plays.
“I don’t class Cole Palmer as a striker; he’s a modern, versatile forward — but I love him as a player and this is my excuse to write about him! His rise from where he was at Manchester City to where he is now is extraordinary,” Shearer told The Athletic.
“He’s phenomenal at everything, particularly scoring goals, but one of his biggest attributes is not being fazed by anything; he looks like he’s playing in the park with his pals. You’d never know he was operating under any sort of pressure.
“Chelsea wouldn’t be anywhere near as good as they are without him in the team. He dictates everything. His passing ability, his willingness to take the ball in tight areas, his finishing…
“He has all the hallmarks of being a top-class player for years to come.”
Dimitar Berbatov recently raved about “intelligent” Chelsea attacker Palmer, so he’s receiving widespread praise from all angles. His aim should be to keep his head down and keep producing the magic whenever he plays.
Palmer is surely going to be in the mix for all the individual awards come the end of the season with his talent, but can he push to top the Premier League’s goalscoring charts?
So far, the left-footed playmaker has seven goals and five assists in 10 league matches.
Here is a look at the Premier League’s top scorers so far in the 2024/25 season:
Player | Club | Appearances | Goals |
Erling Haaland | Manchester City | 10 | 11 |
Chris Wood | Nottingham Forest | 10 | 8 |
Bryan Mbeumo | Brentford | 10 | 8 |
Cole Palmer | Chelsea | 10 | 7 |
Mohamed Salah | Liverpool | 10 | 7 |
Nicolas Jackson | Chelsea | 10 | 6 |
Danny Welbeck | Brighton | 10 | 6 |
One source claims Chelsea’s Palmer is expected to be available to face Arsenal on Sunday, despite not training earlier this week due to an injury knock. It would be great for him to sign off for the international break with a goal or two this weekend to help the Blues at home to rivals Arsenal.
