Orlando Pirates advanced into the Nedbank Cup final following a 3-1 semi-final victory over Chippa United at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday.
TELL ME MORE
On an afternoon they dominated proceedings, Orlando Pirates went ahead just five minutes after Kabelo Dlamini gave Chippa United goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali no chance to save his beautiful free-kick.
Dlamini then doubled Pirates' lead four minutes before half-time when he finished a cross from Patrick Maswanganyi, leaving Chippa with a tough comeback task.
But the home side returned from the break a bit improved and Elmo Kambindu reduced arrears on 63 minutes when he connected a cross from Bienvenu Eva Nga.
Defender Tapelo Xoki then sealed victory Buccaneers by volleying a delivery from Maswanganyi with 10 minutes remaining on the clock.
It then became difficult for the hosts to come back into the game after Eva Nga was red-carded with two minutes to go.
THE MVP
Dlamini has been showing strong character and this time around he struck a brace to prove that he deserves to start matches.
Following a difficult start to the season when he was struggling for game time, Dlamini has turned himself into a regular after seizing his opportunity at the end of March.
THE BIG LOSER
For all his frequent chopping and changing of coaches, it is not paying off for Chippa owner Siviwe Mpengesi.
Following the Chilli Boys' exit from the Nedbank Cup, they will now have to wait for next season to win their first-ever major trophy in top-flight league football.
WHAT COMES NEXT?
Interestingly, Pirates and Chippa meet again on Wednesday but this time around it will be a Premier Soccer League date at Orlando Pirates.
While the Chilli Boys will be trying to lose a third successive match in all competitions, the Buccaneers are still pushing to finish the campaign as runners-up to PSL champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
