Kyle Walker is one of Manchester City’s longest-serving players.
Signed from Tottenham Hotspur back in the 2017 summer transfer window, the right-back has gone on to make 309 appearances for City.
Across those games, Walker has chipped in with six goals and 23 assists, lifting multiple domestic and European trophies along the way.
In fact, last season saw the Englishman captain the Blues to their historic fourth consecutive Premier League title.
In the middle of his eighth season with the Citizens, the 34-year-old has shed some light on another key figure at the Etihad Stadium.
While discussing his early meetings with Pep Guardiola in a recent episode of You’ll Never Beat Kyle Walker, the City captain shared this on what it’s like to be around the prolific manager.
He said: “He’s got an aura about him that he carries, you’re glued.
“You could sit him here and everyone would be so fixated on what he’s actually saying because of what he’s won, the players that he’s obviously coached.”
As Walker mentioned, Guardiola has coached a vast number of players throughout his managerial career during spells in charge of Barcelona and Bayern Munich before arriving at City in 2016.
Pep Guardiola | Matches | Won | Drawn | Lost | Players Used |
Manchester City | 489 | 360 | 60 | 69 | 91 |
Bayern Munich | 161 | 124 | 16 | 21 | 44 |
Barcelona | 247 | 179 | 47 | 21 | 57 |
One of those players is Andres Iniesta, who announced his retirement from football last month.
Shortly after the Spaniard – who featured in 181 matches under the 53-year-old at Barcelona – brought an end to his illustrious playing career, Iniesta praised Guardiola, saying this about him specifically.
He said: “Guardiola is a complete player. His vision of football, his understanding of the game, his way of transmitting…everything.”
After his successful spells with Barcelona and Bayern, the £378k-a-week former midfielder has guided City to six Premier League titles and their first Champions League trophy.
Now that Walker has highlighted how much charisma Guardiola has and how he’s able to use that to get his players to engage with what he’s saying, it’s clear that this side of his personality has helped him become the successful manager he has been for over 15 years.
