Manchester United’s new sporting owners have taken strict measures with regards to employee benefits ahead of next month’s FA Cup final.

As reported by The Times, the more than 1,000 employees at the club, including senior staff and directors, will not be able to avail the traditional benefits of the past for the occasion, which included free tickets for friends and family, paid-for travel both to and from Wembley Stadium, pre- and post-match meals, as well as accommodation in London.

According to the Times report, the United employees have been sent an email in which they’ve been told that they will only receive one free ticket per head and will have to pay for food, travel, and accommodation on their own.

The decision arrives at an interesting time as the club looks to turn over a new leaf going into next season.

A bold move indeed

At first glance, stripping away employee benefits is not a good look. But when you look at the fact that even senior staff and directors have been asked to make their own arrangements, things become more interesting.

Many of this senior personnel are affluent enough to be able to pay for their own tickets, food, and accommodation, and while the same cannot necessarily be said for those below in the United corporate ladder, it looks like this is more of a tentative measure taken to free up funds wherever possible ahead of next season, while also indicating that the luxury afforded to even those who do not require it is something that will no longer be available at the club going forward.
