Jürgen Klopp faces awkward Mohamed Salah decision as Liverpool could make four changes

Liverpool dropped some more points against West Ham in the Premier League. With three matches left of the Jürgen Klopp era, he has a Mohamed Salah call to make.

Liverpool has just three matches left to play under Jürgen Klopp: Spurs, Aston Villa, and Wolves. With Manchester City and Arsenal now leading the way in the Premier League, it looks like the Reds will have to make do with third spot.

At the start of the season, top four and a trophy would have been a more than acceptable campaign for Liverpool given what the Reds endured last season. But with Klopp announcing in January that he was leaving, that moved the goalposts.

It is not just that, of course. Only a couple of weeks ago, Liverpool was in the driving seat for the Premier League title and had a gap to Manchester City that it needed to preserve. Only perfection was likely to be enough for that, though, and it wasn't possible.

With the title now almost certainly beyond Liverpool short of a miracle, it could be time for some changes as the Klopp era ticks down. A Champions League place looks secure (one win will pretty much secure it, and certainly will if that one win is against Spurs) and the attention can therefore switch purely to lifting the mood.

That Tottenham game is next up for Liverpool, who have a free midweek coming up thanks to being knocked out of the Europa League. Spurs come to Anfield next Sunday in a match that will almost certainly be more important for the visitors than the host.

Ibrahima Konaté could come back into the side but he was dropped for his performance against Everton and Jarell Quansah didn't do a great deal wrong against West Ham. He was beaten in the air by Michail Antonio for the equalizing goal but largely played well.

In midfield, Curtis Jones will want to come back into the team and Dominik Szoboszlai could also do likewise. Wataru Endō probably didn't do enough against West Ham to guarantee his spot, while Ryan Gravenberch showed promise and could stay in the XI.

The forward line is where the most interesting decisions will be, even if Diogo Jota is not back available again after his latest injury setback. When he was most recently asked, Klopp wasn't sure yet when the Portugal striker would be back in training.

Klopp's argument with Mohamed Salah on the touchline was the biggest talking point of the West Ham game and it will be intriguing to see how that situation is managed. The German will be asked about it during his pre-match press conference next Friday but there is a question over whether Salah should come back into the team because of his form, let alone anything else.

Harvey Elliott is much better in a deeper position and Darwin Núñez's form has been poor lately, so there are not loads of appealing solutions available. Only Cody Gakpo and Luis Díaz should be certainties to start.

Liverpool.com says: The season has seemingly started to fizzle out over the last few weeks but hopefully Liverpool can find a way of injecting some life back into it. It would be a shame if the end of the Klopp era was a quiet slipping-away of performances and points, even if there is now very little to play for.
