Fans say Man City boss Pep Guardiola told 'biggest lie in football history' while in tears
On the final day of the 2020/21 Premier League season, a teary eyed Pep Guardiola was in an emotional mood after his Manchester City side had wrapped up what was then the third title of his tenure.
After they had dismantled a dismal Everton 5-0, the Spaniard was asked what Man City would do now in the wake of the news Sergio Aguero would be leaving the Etihad.
Guardiola responded: "We cannot replace him. We cannot."
But now fans on social media reckon the Man City boss has told "the biggest lie in football history" following the absurd number Erling Haaland has bagged this season.
The Norwegian forward has already scored 39 goals in 36 games this season, and will likely push get close to the 40-goal mark in the Premier League.
During Aguero's decade in Manchester, his best goal tally in all competitions was 33 in 45 games which came in Guardiola's first season at the Etihad.
How many goals do you think Erling Haaland will score this season? Let us know in the comments section below.
And upon recalling Guardiola's comment, plenty of football fans were in agreement that his statement about Aguero was a huge lie.
One Twitter user wrote: "This got to be the biggest lie in Football history" with another adding: "This man lied to all of us!!!"
Another fan added: "Ended up replacing him with AI" while another commented: "Proceeds to buy a goal machine."
While Aguero is now arguably the greatest player in Man City's history, there's every chance that if Haaland stays in the north-west for the majority of his career, he could eclipse the Argentine's impressive 194 goals he scored for the club.
