Chelsea are hurtling towards a transfer ‘calamity’ after a report revealed a shock move made by Mason Mount has greatly increased the chances of a transfer to Liverpool, Man Utd or Newcastle.

Negotiations over Mount extending his stay at Stamford Bridge recently reached a ‘stalemate’, per the Telegraph. Mount compares favourably to Premier League legends Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard through the age of 25, though the Blues don’t appear to rate their homegrown star all that highly.

Indeed, the Telegraph’s Matt Law reported Mount is not seeking the biggest pay packet possible, and instead only wants to be suitably rewarded for what he feels has been stellar service to the club so far.

However, unlike a new deal for fellow homegrown star Reece James that was straightforward, discussions with Mount have stuttered and stalled.

The 24-year-old is out of contract in the summer of 2024 and if a breakthrough can’t be forged, Chelsea will explore a sale this summer to ensure they don’t lose a highly saleable asset for nothing.

A valuation around the £50m mark has been touted and Liverpool, Man Utd and Newcastle are all known admirers.

Now, a bombshell update from the Daily Mail has given each of Mount’s potential suitors a huge boost.

The newspaper report that in lieu of discussions with Chelsea reaching an impasse, Mount has taken his future into his own hands.

The attacker has reportedly hired a new agent in Neil Fewings of the Wasserman agency. The Mail claim this is with the intention of managing a ‘potential transfer from Chelsea’.

Chelsea have reportedly told Mount they’ve made their final offer. Given it’s not been accepted, there appears to be no scope for Mount penning fresh terms.

As such, Mount and his father, Tony, have ‘sought more special assistance’ to help negotiate with other clubs and appointing Fewings is the ‘strongest indication yet’ he’ll leave Chelsea this summer.

The Mail conclude his efforts to force Chelsea’s hand may already be ‘paying off’ given Man Utd, Liverpool and Newcastle are all confirmed as circling.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano subsequently tweeted it’s “very likely” Mount will now leave Chelsea in the next window.

The Telegraph’s Matt Law is one notable observer who believes Chelsea are sleepwalking into a major mistake.

Law concluded in his piece it’s ‘puzzling’ why Chelsea ‘haven’t thrown the kitchen sink’ at Mount thus far. He also labelled any scenario in which Chelsea allow Mount to walk a ‘calamity’ for the club.

Chelsea’s loss may well wind up being one of their closest rivals’ gain.
