Manchester United have been told to sell five players in the January transfer window.

Though there is a significant chunk of important matches to wade through yet, the January transfer window is looming on the horizon and United are desperately trying to reach it as if sailing towards a safe harbour on choppy seas. It could provide the boost they need to finish the season strongly.

United are now looking a lot healthier in their league position after a good run of results, but Erik ten Hag's side is still clearly below its best. There have still been plenty of dreadful defeats and even the victories have been far from convincing.

United do not look like a team capable of winning any silverware at present, with the biblical injury crisis they've suffered also wreaking havoc on the squad. Any team in the world would struggle with so many key players out and it's hardly surprising United have looked unstable.

January provides a chance for United to bolster their squad options and bring in some extra quality to help turn their fortunes around. However, it's not going to be easy.

United struggled to sign several good players when they have the whole summer at their disposal so a single month to work with doesn't bode well. Additionally, United are currently working on a shoestring budget to ensure they don't breach FFP.

Overspending in recent summers means they can't spend massive amounts, which is why Sofyan Amrabat had to be signed on loan rather than permanently on the last deadline day. However, there could be some wriggle room if funds can be raised through sales.

MEN Sport asked fans to vote on which members of the United squad should be sold in January. Players who less than 50 per cent of voters wanted to stay at the club are placed in the 'to sell' list.

Five players were in the unenviable position and at the bottom of the pile was Donny van de Beek. The Dutchman was expected to leave in the summer but couldn't find a move. His playing time has not increased at Old Trafford with just two appearances to his name and he recently admitted he could leave to find more action. 96.8 per cent of fans agree with him.

Next was Jadon Sancho, with just 9.7 per cent of voters wanting him to stay. The forward has failed to impress since his big-money move from Borussia Dortmund and that was before a spectacular fallout with Ten Hag saw him frozen out of the squad. He hasn't played for United since September and likely won't do again.

Antony is another winger who is not living up to expectations and only 19.7 per cent of voters don't think he should be sold. Ten Hag was desperate to sign the Brazilian and sanctioned an £80m purchase, so the pressure is on for things to turn around.

Despite his bright display and great goal against Everton, only 26.9 per cent of fans think Anthony Martial should stay in January. Given United's meagre attacking options, it's hard to see him being allowed to leave. Finally, youngster Shola Shoretire is the fifth player fans think should be sold.
