Report: Chelsea are ready to offer Edouard Mendy in swap deal to sign £35m player sent home from World Cup

Reports have claimed that Chelsea are prepared to offer Edouard Mendy in exchange for Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana.

According to Inter Live, the Blues are willing to pay at least £35m for the deal, however they could look to include the 31-year-old in a deal to sweeten it.

The Senegal international has lost his place in the first team at Stamford Bridge ever since Graham Potter joined the club late last year.

He was originally injured when the new manager joined, leaving Kepa Arrizabalaga a then-rare chance to start a Premier League game.

The Spaniard took the chance with both hands, and has become the regular starting goalkeeper at Stamford Bridge.

Even when Mendy has been fit, he has been forced to watch from the side with opportunities being rare in recent months.

He did represent his country at the World Cup, although hardly covered himself in glory throughout the tournament.

However, his reputation was not tarnished anything like Onana’s. The 26-year-old was sent home from the tournament after a disagreement with the Cameroon manager during the group stages.

Despite the international exploits, he has continued to impress at club level. He was extremely important in Inter’s Champions League win over Porto in the Round of 16.

Now, he is reportedly of interest to Chelsea, with Inter Live suggesting that they may look to pose a swap deal with their out of favour option.

The Blues are reportedly interested in a number of options to potentially feature in goal next season, despite their content feelings around having Kepa in goal.

There is reported interest in Brentford goalkeeper David Raya, with compatriot Cesar Azpilicueta reportedly already trying to convince him to make the move across West London.
