Crystal Palace fans beg 'please no' as 'hopeless' Liverpool legend linked to job
A host of out of work Premier League managers have been linked with the now vacant Crystal Palace job after the Eagles sacked Patrick Vieira.
While Palace currently sit 12th in the table, they have not won a Premier League contest in their last 11 games, which has ultimately led to Vieira's dismissal.
With the likes of Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Ralph Hassenhuttl having all been linked to the job, there is a long list of potential candidates who could take over from Vieira at Selhurst Park.
No appointment is expected to be made prior to the Eagles Sunday afternoon clash with league leaders Arsenal, which will likely mean Palace will name Vieira's replacement during the upcoming international break.
And, despite the links to Gerrard, bookmakers Betfair make another Liverpool legend, Rafael Benitez, the current favourite to replace Vieira.
Betfair spokesperson Sam Rosbottom said: "With no win since New Year’s Eve, Crystal Palace parted ways with Patrick Vieira on Friday morning.
"Now, former Liverpool and Everton boss Rafa Benitez is the early 10/3 favourite to be the next Eagles manager, with Ralph Hasenhuttl 5/1 and Nuno Espirito Santo 6/1. Elsewhere, Marcelo Bielsa is 15/2 to make a Premier League return, while Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard are both 10/1."
However, it seems as though the links to the likes of Gerrard and Lampard have not gone down well with Palace fans on social media.
One fan tweeted "why bother sacking vieira when you’re gonna just end up with like steven gerrard or some s*** who’s worse" with another adding "Please don’t let Lampard, Gerrard, Bielsa, Hasenhüttl or Marsch anywhere near Palace".
Another added "Nailed on Jesse Marsch to please the yank owners" whilst an Everton fan chimed in with "Crystal Palace need to avoid appointing Gerrard and Lampard if they want to stay up. Hopeless managers, who would take Palace down."
