Manchester United and Arsenal have been warned off signing Bruno Guimaraes with the Newcastle star reportedly paying £4million for a family home in Northumberland. The midfielder has been linked with an exit from St James’ Park but the latest development suggests he is committing his long-term future to the club.

United and Arsenal will make improvements to their midfields during the summer transfer window and have reportedly identified Guimaraes as a potential signing. Newcastle may need to sell a star player to remain within profit and sustainability regulations (PSR).

Guimaraes, Alexander Isak and Miguel Almiron have all been linked with departures. All three would command hefty fees.

However, speculation over Guimaraes’s future might be over after the 26-year-old reportedly purchased a new home. According to the Telegraph, the Brazilian is paying a whopping £4m for the abode, which is located in the exclusive Northumberland estate of Daras Hall. He reportedly plans to move his family into the home.

Buying a house in the local area suggests that Guimaraes sees his future at Newcastle. The five-year contract extension he penned in October 2023 also points to that stance.

There is reportedly ‘growing optimism’ that Guimaraes will remain at the club, in a major boost to Eddie Howe’s side. Man Utd and Arsenal will therefore need to look elsewhere for their midfield targets.

Guimaraes has played 101 games for Newcastle since joining from Lyon in January 2022. He has scored 14 goals and provided a further 14 assists in that time, being deployed in several midfield roles during Howe’s tenure.

Only a one-match suspension earlier in the season has prevented Guimaraes from playing in every Premier League game so far this campaign. Howe has relied on the star amid surging numbers of injuries on Tyneside.

Despite a swathe of absences, Newcastle have performed positively and are among the favourites to qualify for European competition this season. The Magpies are currently sixth in the top-flight, level on goal difference with Man Utd.

At present, a sixth-place finish will see Newcastle qualify for next season’s Europa League. Seventh will be enough for the Conference League. Another Champions League campaign seems beyond Newcastle, though, with Howe’s side 13 points off fourth-placed Aston Villa with six matches remaining.

Newcastle face a busy summer attempting to keep hold of their key players. Howe will also be expected to be backed by a substantial budget to ensure his team challenge for a Champions League spot next season.
