A fresh claim has been made about Julen Lopetegui potentially taking over as the new West Ham United manager following a new round of talks.

West Ham have been chasing Julen Lopetegui for quite some time now – he first got linked with the Hammers job last year.

David Moyes is under intense pressure at the London Stadium right now. In fact, it looks to me like he’s done, and it has been reported that he will definitely leave the London Stadium in the summer.

Hammers co-owner David Sullivan is believed to be very keen to appoint Lopetegui as Moyes’s successor, but Tim Steidten is apparently pushing for Paulo Fonseca or Ruben Amorim instead of the 57-year-old.

Brand new Julen Lopetegui to West Ham update after official talks

The 57-year-old has managed some big clubs in his time including the likes of Real Madrid, Sevilla and the Spanish national team.

However, he is an extremely pragmatic manager, and has a reputation of implementing a pretty boring style of football.

He certainly did that at Molineux, and there weren’t too many Wolves fans who were disappointed when he left.

So could the Spaniard really be London Stadium bound?

According to a report from Spanish publication La Razon, West Ham have now held official talks with Lopetegui, and the Spaniard is really keen to take over at the London Stadium.

I really hope that the Hammers owners aim a little higher and appoint either Ruben Amorim or Paulo Fonseca this summer.

With the report claiming that West Ham have held talks with Lopetegui though, I feel like the former Wolves boss is the hot favourite to replace Moyes.

I just don’t think he’s the right man for the job though, unfortunately.
