Beverley Town FC is gearing up for the play-off final on Saturday which could see the club promoted.

Club bosses have warned fans to "arrive early" at its Norwood ground well before kickoff at 3pm if they want a place in the stands because it's expected to be packed. Beverley Town FC has come second in Division One of the Northern Counties East Football League and, if victorious, Saturday's match against Shirebrook Town will see it promoted to the Premier Division of the NCEL.

They said: "This is the biggest game in the club’s history and we’re hoping to break our record attendance and get as many people down to support the team as possible as they look to gain promotion."

Richard Jagger, the club’s Development Officer, said he was proud of the players' performance this season and thought they were in for a very good chance on Saturday. "We've come a respectable second in the league with 103 points," he said.

He added: "This is by far the biggest game in the club's history. The guys are really focused and really looking forward to the game."

The players are on a roll after celebrating a 2-1 victory against Retford United last weekend, with Benjamin Hinchliffe scoring the winning goal in the 85th minute. Rich added: "Last Saturday was a really tough game but we came out one goal up in the final minutes which was a huge boost to the players' confidence."

Rich said the club has expanded rapidly in the past few years thanks to its benefactors and community support. He said: "Beverley Town FC was founded in 2000. Before that, it was under different guises but we became one of the founding members of the Humber Premier League and enjoyed a good long period at the top.

"We were lucky that about six years ago to get money from a well known teacher, Ivan Usher, in his will. We were able to build a 54 people stand at the home ground.

"In the last three or four years we've merged with Beverley Beverley Whitestar and at that point we started to put on sessions for juniors and kids. We've got 35 junior teams; boys and girls and children with disabilities."

The gates open at 1pm on Saturday, May 11 for the play-off final at Norwood Recreation Ground. Tickets are £4 for adults and £3 for concessions.
