Daniel Farke became the first manager in Leeds United’s history to accumulate 90 points in his first season in charge last night.
Farke was appointed at Elland Road last summer tasked with the remit of winning promotion back to the Premier League with Leeds, and they still have a chance of doing so in these last two matches.
Leeds’ push for the top two has faltered in recent weeks but they were able to get back on track yesterday with a dramatic 4-3 victory at Middlesbrough.
Despite Leeds’ impressive season, Farke has had his fair share of critics, particularly over recent matches. His choice of substitutions in certain matches have been a little puzzling.
Leeds have also struggled to break down deep defensive sides on a number of occasions, but those are just minor criticisms for what has been an enjoyable season.
Leeds legend Eddie Gray was this morning asked on talkSPORT about the job Farke has done at Elland Road this season following last night’s win.
Amid his role of Club Ambassador, Gray still manages to attend the majority of Leeds’ matches and is often down at Thorp Arch to show his face and watch the side in training.
He now also has even more of an interest in the Whites this season with his great nephew Archie Gray very much a key first team figure. Eddie has often urged Farke to get the 18-year-old back into midfield, as he has spent much of the season at right-back.
Having said that, Gray was full of praise for the job Farke has done this season and says his authority on the training pitch is something he has particularly noticed.
He said: “He has done tremendous. I have been up to the training ground and watched a few sessions, he doesn’t stand for any nonsense and he knows the game. His sessions are good, and he works hard himself, and the players respond to that.”
As mentioned, Farke has certainly shown some weaknesses in his managerial armoury this season, but the impact he has had, has been significant.
Farke inherited a total mess of a club upon his arrival back in July, as he powerlessly watched several first-team players depart, among other things.
However, whenever people around Elland Road speak of him, they have nothing but good things to say. Only recently did Junior Firpo say he is his favourite manager that he has worked under at Leeds.
Farke was also correctly nominated for Championship MOTS and hopefully his experience can get Leeds over the line, one way or another.
