Sheffield United midfielder Vini Souza was booed off at the weekend by Blades fans in a new low for the Brazilian.

Souza was brought into the club with plenty of excitement around him but after a positive enough start in red and white, he has wilted as the season has gone on.

The Brazilian has made a name for himself as being something of a passenger in midfield at times with many fans zoning in on Souza’s constant pointing at other players when at fault himself.

At the weekend, Chris Wilder took Souza off midway through the second half. The decision was met with a smattering of boos and sarcastic cheers as Souza hastily made his way off.

And addressing the issues of a potential lack of characters in his team right now, Wilder used three players as examples of what happens when you simply play well.

Chris Wilder addresses Vini Souza boos

Speaking in his press conference ahead of facing Manchester United this Wednesday, Wilder got onto the subject of character in the squad.

And referencing Souza at the weekend, Wilder admitted it was as simple as playing well.

“Look, like I said afterwards, there was no negativity towards Jayden Bogle. There was no negativity towards Oliver Arblaster because they played well. Play well, and you have a massive opportunity of staying in the team.

“I’m not going to drop my best players, I’m not going to drop players I feel played well. Bogle was fantastic after being in doubt. Those are the players we are talking about and those are the players part of what will take us forward. Arblaster the same, played well, it’s simple. There’s the club, there’s a shot, there’s the game, just execute it please. But you know, it’s easier said than done,” Wilder said.

Adding further comments after referencing Bogle and Arblaster from Saturday, Wilder then commented on Jack Robinson having his name sung by the Blades fans.

“I’ve seen Jack Robinson hobbling about putting his hand up to play. Which doesn’t surprise me. Oh by the way, the supporters sing Jack’s name. And there’s a reason they sing Jack’s song.”

Whether or not we see Souza again this season remains to be seen.

If he’s not included at Old Trafford, then there is a chance we’ve seen the last of the former Espanyol man.
