Arsenal and Chelsea will lock horns in Tuesday night’s Premier League encounter at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners will be eager to go six points clear at the top of the table and really put the pressure on Manchester City ahead of their games in hand.
Mikel Arteta’s side bounced back from their losses to Aston Villa and Bayern Munich by running out 2-0 winners at Wolves last Saturday.
Meanwhile, the Blues will be eager to end their season on a high after their narrow loss to Man City in the FA Cup on Saturday.
Highbury icon Paul Merson, writing on Sportskeeda, has now predicted who he fancies to win between Arsenal and Chelsea.
The pundit believes the Gunners will have just enough to run out 2-1 winners against their London rivals.
“Chelsea never turned up at the Emirates last year and Arsenal absolutely blew them away,” wrote Merson.
“The Gunners will hope for a similar result this time out as they aim to go four points clear of Manchester City in the Premier League summit.
“Chelsea will be kicking themselves for not beating Man City in the FA Cup semi-final and I think that result will play on their minds a little bit.”
Merson continued: “Arsenal have to be patient and not be as open as they were at the back against Aston Villa.
“Chelsea will give them a game and might even frustrate them for large parts of the 90 minutes, but they shouldn’t force it and look to play their natural game.
“If Arsenal win their next two games, Man City need to be perfect between now and the end of the season to be crowned champions.
“If they win today – and I think they will – there will be massive pressure on Pep Guardiola’s side to win their games in hand.”
Arsenal will be desperate to go six points clear at the top of the Premier League table, so I expect their players to give their all tonight (and for the rest of the season).
In addition, the Gunners playing at home in front of a fired-up crowd – and in a derby – will give them an extra edge.
Meanwhile, Chelsea haven’t really got anything left to play for this season, except maybe a spot in the Europa Conference League. But let’s face it, that’s not a massive incentive.
With that in mind, I think Arsenal will have too much for Chelsea, so let’s go 2-0 home win.
