Jose Mourinho says there’s a player who is good enough to play for Liverpool, and Jurgen Klopp has already tried to sign him once.
Jose Mourinho has managed not just some of the best teams in world football but also the best players.
His record in the game speaks for itself, and he will go down as one of the best managers to have ever coached.
Recently, he was even a surprise candidate to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool. Although those rumours may have been a little farfetched.
Nonetheless, he’s also been talking about Liverpool recently, and explaining why he thinks there is one winger who is good enough to play for the Reds.
The player Mourinho was talking about is Son Heung-min, who has arguably been one of the best players in the Premier League over the last few seasons.
Speaking to EA FC, Mourinho explained why he thinks, Son could play for the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City. And also added why he thinks he is one of the best players in the world.
“I don’t look at Son as a Korean player,” Mourinho said.
“I look at Son as one of the best players in the world. Maybe Tottenham supporters aren’t going to be happy with what I’m going to say, it’s not disrespectful.
“He could win titles, he could play for the best teams. He could be playing in England for Man City, for Liverpool, for Chelsea. It could be abroad playing for one of the top teams. He has that modern mobility of the attacking players. He can play through the middle, from the sides, wide to coming inside.”
Mourinho is not the only admirer of Son, Liverpool’s current boss, Jurgen Klopp has also spoken really highly of the South Korean player.
The Liverpool manager even tried to sign him while he was at Borussia Dortmund, but ultimately missed out on his signature with Son moving to Tottenham instead. Klopp described that as one of the ‘biggest mistakes’ of his career.
“One of the biggest mistakes in my life is not signing Son Heung-min,” he confessed to Korean outlet KBS News via the Daily Mirror in November 2021. “Outstanding player. He is fantastic, a sign of Korean football and one of the best strikers in the world.”
