Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United squad could suddenly be a lot stronger against Crystal Palace next week.

The Magpies are not in action again until next Wednesday night, when they travel to Selhurst Park for a rescheduled Premier League clash with Crystal Palace.

It looked like Newcastle United would probably go into that game with a depleted bench once again, with Eddie Howe having limited options against Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend.

The only hope was that Kieran Trippier could return, with the 33-year-old missing the Magpies’ last five games with a calf problem.

Whether or not Trippier is available to face Crystal Palace remains to be seen, but it now looks like another one of Newcastle United’s more senior players will be involved.

Newcastle United striker is back in training after injury

24 hours after the crushing news that Joe Willock is going to miss the rest of the season, Toon fans have finally received a positive injury update.

Sky Sports have released footage from the Newcastle United training ground on Wednesday morning, and the clip shows one of the Magpies’ injured stars returning to the fold.

Callum Wilson was involved in the session, having been absent since the 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest. The striker sustained a pectoral injury that night, and underwent surgery. There were fears that his season was over, but that is not the case.

When Callum Wilson could make his Newcastle return

The 32-year-old is now back in full training, and will hope to be back on the pitch as soon as possible.

And, according to the Northern Echo, that could happen as early as next week. They report that Wilson could be in the matchday squad to face Crystal Palace next Wednesday.

Newcastle finally have depth up front

That is a major boost for Eddie Howe, as it finally means he will have a backup striker. Alexander Isak has been flying solo for the past couple of months, and is now well out in front as the Magpies’ top scorer with 21 goals.

But there have always been fears that he could succumb to another injury, with Howe unable to give the 24-year-old a rest.

Now he will have that opportunity, with Wilson returning to the fold. And the ‘incredible‘ £20million man will return hungrier than ever, knowing that he has six games to prove to Gareth Southgate that he should go to the Euros this summer.

On top of that, Wilson will be keen to add to his tally of eight goals this season and hit double figures.
