Brighton veteran Welbeck on brink of penning long-term deal

Danny Welbeck is set to be offered a new deal at Brighton.

The veteran striker's current contract is due to expire at the end of the season.

The Athletic says the club is thinking of an extension of two or three years with the parties having already reached an agreement in principle which is just waiting to be signed.

Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi recently praised Welbeck: “This is his best period since I coached him, he is a great player and a great boy.

"We should keep him with us for many more years because in addition to playing very well he is important for the growth of the young people and for the locker room."
