Borussia Dortmund beat Atlético Madrid in remarkable come-from-behind fashion to reach the UEFA Champions League semi-finals on Tuesday and this could help Man United.

They have now set up a final-four tie against Paris Saint-Germain, which will be played out next month over two legs.

In making the UCL semis, Dortmund have ended up handing Man United a financial boost by way of Jadon Sancho.

The England international returned to Signal Iduna Park in January for a half-season loan, having fallen out with his United manager, Erik ten Hag, early in the season.

The BVB paid United €3.5 million upfront as a loan fee, with a further €4 million to be paid in potential add-ons.

Now, according to Manchester Evening News, as reported by Mirror, United have received part of that add-on fee and are set to receive even more should Dortmund go deeper into the Champions League.

Before they face PSG next month, Dortmund have two Bundesliga games ahead of them against champions-elect Bayer Leverkusen and direct top-four rivals RB Leipzig. They will want to have a good showing against them in an attempt to grab a Champions League spot for next season.

Sancho move may yet prove not completely disastrous

Circumstances mostly not of his making have rendered Sancho’s time at Old Trafford disappointing so far, of that there can be no doubt.

It has been nice to see him on the pitch again with a smile on his face ever since his return to Germany, demonstrating how something as simple as “making someone feel comfortable and at home” can do wonders even in a high-paced environment of top-level professional football.

Sancho’s recent performances also indicate that United could cut their losses even more significantly should they choose to let him go permanently in the summer.
