There’s one player who is on Liverpool’s radar, who supported the club as a child and who would make sense as the club’s first signing this summer.

While Liverpool will prioritise a centre-back and a wide-player this summer, the club may also explore the market for a holding midfielder.

Wataru Endo has done a great job in the position this season. However, he cannot be considered as a long-term candidate for the role.

Liverpool must explore alternative solutions and find a long-term solution. Someone like Moises Caicedo, who they missed out on last summer.

And there is a player of exactly that profile, who is on Liverpool’s radar and who would make perfect sense to sign this summer.

Why Morten Frendrup is just like Joao Palhinha and why Liverpool should sign him

The player we are talking about is Morten Frendrup. He is someone who has been on Liverpool’s radar this season, and it makes absolute sense why.

Frendrup is a tenacious holding midfielder who is one of the best ball-winning midfielders in the Serie A. That’s exactly the type of midfielder Liverpool have lacked since the departure of Fabinho.

To illustrate just how impressive Frendrup has been this season, as per FBref, only Joao Palhinha (181) has made more tackles and interceptions combined than Frendrup (172) in Europe’s top five leagues this season.

Only 23-years-old, he is still really young and exactly the type of age when Michael Edwards likes to sign players. Just before he hits his prime.

What Morten Frendrup has said about Liverpool in the past

To make things even better, Frendrup is actually a Liverpool fan, or at least he was a supporter of the club while growing up.

He told Danish outlet Sjællandske under back in a 2018 interview about that he dreams of playing for the club.

“It’s a dream [playing for Liverpool] I’ve always had, and I believe it will succeed,” he said. “If I work hard, I believe in it.”

What more could you ask for? Frendrup seems like the perfect fit for Liverpool this summer.
