Arsenal have extra point over Man City as Premier League title race reaches thrilling conclusion

Arsenal and Manchester City can barely be separated in the Premier League title race with just a couple of weeks left of the season

Arsenal may win the Premier League title this season thanks to a factor which would have cost them last season.

The Gunners currently sit top of the Premier League after a comfortable 3-0 victory over AFC Bournemouth. Bukayo Saka's penalty followed by strikes from Leandro Trossard and Declan Rice put the pressure on Manchester City to close the gap.

Unfortunately for Mikel Arteta's men, City showed no signs of buckling as Erling Haaland stepped up to the plate. His incredible four-goal haul saw Wolverhampton Wanderers capitulate to a 5-1 defeat at the Etihad Stadium and moved the Blues within a point of the leaders.

Many pundits believe City will make history and win their fourth successive Premier League title. Pep Guardiola's team only need to win their last three matches against Fulham, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United to ensure they will be champions.

However, any slip-up would mean the title is in Arsenal's hands. Currently, the Gunners have a superior goal difference of +60 to City's +54.

This means it effectively works as an extra point for Arsenal because if the two clubs finish the campaign level on points, it will be Arteta and his players who shall lift the title on the last day at home to Everton. The two-horse race at the top of the Premier League is reminiscent of last season.

Arsenal finished five points behind City in the end but their goal difference was 16 worse than the Manchester club. However, this year the title race is expected to go down to the final day and it is unclear who shall hold the advantage come Sunday, May 19.
