Arsenal rocked up to Tottenham Hotspur’s stadium again and recorded a 3-2 win in the north London derby.

Mikel Arteta’s side boosted their Premier League title hopes with those three points as they claimed the bragging rights once more in this fixture.

The game was lost by Tottenham in the first half when they went into the break 3-0 down and produced a horror defensive display.

Understandably so, Spurs fans will be annoyed because they had two weeks to prepare for this match, but the same old issues were still there.

As you would expect, both teams were pressing high, and in one instance, Arsenal managed to force a corner, their first of the game and it resulted in a goal.

Ian Wright wanted to highlight goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and how his ‘poor’ kick led to that corner, before Ben White was ‘causing him some problems’ as the ball was going to be delivered in.

Footage showed the Arsenal defender seemingly trying to pull the strap from Vicario’s gloves.

But Tottenham’s summer signing, who has had issues with corners this season, couldn’t deal with the in-swinger from Declan Rice and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg then converted the ball into the back of his own net to the annoyance of Roy Keane.

Wright thinks the midfielder ‘panicked’ before proceeding to help the away team open the scoring, as he told Premier League Productions (28/04/24 at 2:55 pm).

On how Arsenal won the corner that led to the opening goal and how it was scored: “Well, this is what Arsenal were going to do,” said Wright. “You see them inverted there, Porro and Davies.

“Once that happens, you can see where Saka is already. But I think the ball from the goalkeeper is poor. From there, Arsenal, exactly where they want Spurs, in respect of closing down because they want to get into this set-piece situation.

“Ben White there causing the goalkeeper some problems. But this ball here, I think Hojbjerg is on the wrong side. He is leaning across. It’s a half-decent ball in. But, at the same time, it’s made him panic. He is off balance and you get the goal from it.”

Tottenham’s defence vs Arsenal’s defence

When you compare the two this season, it is night and day. One is reliable, whilst with the other, it’s all about how many they are going to concede.

Throughout the season so far, Tottenham have shipped 52 goals from 33 matches, whilst Arsenal have conceded just 28 from 35 games.

This is where Ange Postecoglou is going to need time because, whilst he has brought this amazing, free-flowing and ultra-attacking style of play to the club, it is causing them issues at the back.

Their inability to keep clean sheets is probably going to cost them Champions League football now because they are seven points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa.

Yes, they have two games in hand, but Spurs travel to Chelsea on Thursday night before a trip to Anfield and their game in hand is against Manchester City. All very difficult fixtures to deal with.
