Newcastle United’s squad could look very different ahead of next season.

The club are reportedly hoping for a big rebuild of Eddie Howe’s squad at St James’ Park after a difficult season in which the options have been stretched.

Still, whether or not Newcastle are able to completely revamp their playing staff remains to be seen under the looming threat of FFP limitations.

Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak are both being linked with a move away as the club potentially look to raise funds.

The fact Guimaraes has a release clause does weaken Newcastle’s bargaining position, although there remains a hope of keeping him for at least another season.

Callum Wilson is another player who looks as if he could leave.

Indeed, Newcastle are expecting a market for the striker of around £15m-£20m, albeit Howe has confirmed he wishes to keep the England international.

In fact, Howe even described Wilson as a “monster” after his goal against Burnley on Saturday.

Still, Wilson’s stance on his future may be different. His agents are said to be looking for new clubs amid suggestions he wants to leave after seeing a January move away blocked.

Quizzed on his future, however, Wilson has now provided an update.

Callum Wilson responds when asked about his Newcastle future

Speaking after scoring on the weekend, Wilson said he would be reporting back for pre-season at Newcastle.

“My focus and first thought is just to finish the season strong“, he told The Chronicle.

“Then try to get myself into the tournament in the summer.

“And I am contracted to Newcastle so I will be back for pre-season.”

Callum Wilson is a modern-day Newcastle legend

Of all of the Newcastle forwards in the Premier League era, only Alan Shearer has scored more than Wilson’s 47.

For just £20m, the club brought in a reliable goalscorer at the top level and only injuries stopped him from significantly increasing that tally.

While selling an injury-prone player coming towards the end of his contract and approaching his mid-30s makes sense financially, it doesn’t mean Wilson won’t be missed should he leave.
