It seems there may be truth to recent claims David Moyes is angry with West Ham fans but Crystal Palace’s have clearly impressed him.

West Ham fans are often labelled too demanding, unrealistic, fickle and even deluded.

The fact is most of us are very simple creatures who want to see their team play an aggressive style of football on the front foot, regardless of the opposition.

For all the good David Moyes has done at West Ham, all too often over the last two seasons the opposite has been true.

Crystal Palace seem to have carved out a reputation as having one of the best home crowds in the Premier League.

That is not without justification as Selhurst Park can be noisy on its day.

The atmosphere Crystal Palace fans generate can be fantastic and all credit to them.

West Ham were famed for the atmosphere they used to create at Upton Park, particularly under the lights.

MORE WEST HAM STORIES

That has been less frequent in the bowl-shaped London Stadium. And much of that in the last couple of seasons has been down to the style of play.

Journalist claimed boss is miffed with some West Ham fans

Palace fans will empathise with West Ham as they too have craved a more progressive, attacking approach.

A journalist close to Moyes recently revealed he has been unimpressed with fan discontent.

The Scot is said to feel he is being somewhat taken for granted by some West Ham fans.

He has regularly reminded supporters this season that they’ve never had it so good.

Many in the media have also warned West Ham fans to ‘be careful what they wish for’.

The manager has bristled when questioned about the expectations of the club’s fans. After a dismal 2-0 home defeat to Fulham last weekend, Moyes took exception when the reporter asked about how his players could lift the crowd for the Europa League quarter-final second leg against Bayer Leverkusen.

He stated it was up to the fans to lift the players not the other way around.

Moyes fails to acknowledge fans but praises Palace’s

Well he wasn’t disappointed that’s for sure as the best London Stadium atmosphere since Sevilla helped his side come close to turning the tie around.

After the game, though, Moyes failed to acknowledge West Ham fans and the raucous atmosphere they generated in his post-match interviews or press conferences.

The Hammers boss went in front of the press again this morning ahead of the London derby with Crystal Palace on Sunday.

And Moyes failed to acknowledge West Ham fans but instead praised Crystal Palace supporters.

“I think the praise goes to the players for how they performed,” Moyes said when asked about the 1-1 draw with Leverkusen.

“They were terrific, particularly in the first half.

‘They’ve got terrific support there’

“Over the two legs I thought they did a great job against a great side. But ultimately we’re disappointed to go out.

“Over the three years, I think that’s the toughest game we’ve had…

“Going to Crystal Palace is always tough. They’ve got terrific support there, and it’s another difficult game.

“That’s the same every week in the Premier League.”

Moyes has aimed a few digs at West Ham fans this season. It’s clear he’s not overly impressed with supporters who have been calling for change.

That’s understandable given the ridiculous ‘Moyes Out’ banner from a minority that should never have seen the light of day this season given the job he has done. So he’s justified in defending his record.

Is Moyes holding a grudge?

But the supporters are the lifeblood of the club and football is about entertainment.

So Moyes should be acknowledging the supporters, especially as he seems to lavish praise on opposing fans every other week.

But perhaps he knows he is going and is holding a grudge for being questioned.

It’s no coincidence that West Ham’s high intensity, high pressing, aggressive attacking style against Leverkusen was met with one of the best atmospheres the ground has seen yet.

It really isn’t rocket science.

The fact the stadium was still full at the end of the game with fans serenading the team says everything.
