Alan Smith shares what he noticed about Chelsea fans in the first 10 minutes of their big win last night

Pundit Alan Smith made an observation on the Chelsea supporters early on in their big win against Everton last night.

He said during commentary for Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football that things were not as positive early on as they were later in the evening when the goals were flowing.

It was the Cole Palmer show at Stamford Bridge yet again, with his four goals seeing him end the evening as the joint top scorer in the Premier League.

Chelsea beat Everton 6-0

Supporters actually enjoyed a rare comfortable evening at home, with recent games against Burnley and Manchester United not letting them rest despite the fact they were leading both.

The England international’s four goals as well as strikes from Nicolas Jackson and Alfie Gilchrist made it really easy for Mauricio Pochettino and co, as they handed out the beating they had been threatening to do all season.

Chelsea fans nervous in opening minutes

The home fans were loving it for most of the evening, however Smith noticed there was an element of fear amongst them in the opening moments.

He said: “The first 10 minutes you could feel the nerves among the Chelsea fans, when they were knocking the ball across the back because they have seen too many mistakes this season.”

One of the most ironic cheers that came from those inside Stamford Bridge came when Palmer pulled rank to take a second half penalty, with Jackson and Noni Madueke both putting their name in the hat to take the spot kick.

Pochettino stated after the game that the moment had really disappointed him, with it threatening to overshadow what was one of their best nights of the season.

It remains to be seen if that will play into his thinking when he picks his side for the upcoming FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City, with him seeming to stumble across his best side during yesterday’s game.
