Mohamed Salah tipped to leave Liverpool after ‘£480m contract offer’

Liverpool have big decisions to make once the summer transfer window opens.

Alongside searching for a replacement for Jurgen Klopp, one of Liverpool’s biggest tasks at the end of this season will be to make a decision on the future of Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian superstar has been heavily linked to a Saudi Arabia move ever since they offered record-breaking money for him last summer.

Salah’s current contract is due to expire in 2025, meaning that if Liverpool cannot convince him to sign a new deal, they run a big risk losing him for free if they do not cash in this summer. Saudi Arabia continue to show huge interest the 31-year-old and, despite his age, the Reds could still command a very handsome transfer fee.

Last year, Al-Ittihad tabled an initial £150 million for Salah’s signature, before reportedly increasing their bid to an eye-watering £215 million — a world record offer. Liverpool were firm on keeping hold of Salah for the 2023/24 season, even when the winger was reportedly offered a mega-money contract worth between £400-480 million over three years.

While he is approaching his 32nd birthday, Saudi clubs will still likely offer huge money in order to get a deal for Salah over the line this summer. There is a lot of speculation over whether this season will be his last in red, and former Liverpool man José Enrique believes that Klopp’s pending departure will result in Salah calling time on his Anfield era.

“There is a big question mark over Mohamed Salah because I think this summer will be the club’s last opportunity to really cash in on him,” the ex-defender told Grosvenor Sport. “Other clubs would be renewing his contract and not even thinking about selling him, but Liverpool is not like that. If the right offer comes then they will sell because they have a specific structure.

“If the right offer comes then I think Salah will leave because I think he was actually trying to leave last summer. They were offered something like £200 million for him last summer and that was a real offer! When you get an offer like that, usually it means there is already an agreement between the player and the club. I think Salah had already agreed to go and I believe that he will finally go to Saudi Arabia this summer.

“Jurgen Klopp is leaving, so it is the perfect time for Salah to go. There is a new cycle happening at Liverpool and lots of changes, so it is perfect for him. This will likely be the final big contract of his career, so I think he’ll leave for Saudi Arabia.”
